Agent: The truth about why Donnarumma left AC Milan for PSG

The agent of Gigio Donnarumma has explained his decision to leave AC Milan for PSG.

The Italy goalkeeper has never been forgiven by a section of the Rossonero support.

Enzo Raiola recalled to TMW: "The players' paths are a bit related to its level. At 17-18 years old he had the best clubs in the world who wanted him, all of them. And Milan were not among the best. We as agents had the duty to tell the player that he must be rewarded when you have clubs like Real Madrid behind you.

"Despite having attended an appointment in the Blancos' trophy room, he decided to give Milan another chance, hoping that over the years it would return to what it had been in the past. This didn't happen, except last year when the Rossoneri qualified for the Champions League on the last day. If you have images of that match you will realize that he was the one who was worse off, because he knew that it was his 'last day with the Milan shirt'.

"Another thing that Mino (Raiola, Enzo's late brother) taught me is that, if a player can level up, you have to give him that chance otherwise he flattens out. It goes without saying, but Gigio had found a comfort zone at Milan, he knew that he would always play and it was a bit different.

"Flattening a little his qualities, he could have become a goalkeeper like the others. He also had moments in some things where we thought he might flatten out. Instead, at PSG with (Keylor) Navas behind and a lot of pressure, a lot has changed from a professional point of view. He was a professional, now he is a super professional. In these 6 months at PSG he is first, he qualified for the round of 16, he played 3 matches and helped bring Italy to the European Championships... I don't know what more to ask of him."

On his departure from Milan, Raiola said: "We hadn't done it, Mino explained to Milan that he would never have taken him for zero, we were directed to leave him there with the Champions League, even if there was the fear of flattening him. With Ibrahimovic he had an outburst, he hammered him, one morning he woke him up two hours early to make him train. However, Juventus was interested, but when they told us that they no longer wanted him, we went to Al-Khelaifi and he asked: 'But is he free?'. He picked up the phone, called Leonardo and the negotiation started from there."

Asked who chose not to take the Juventus option, he concluded: "Donnarumma, he didn't feel like staying in Italy."
