Liverpool hero John Aldridge feels they should avoid competing for PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is off contract in June and Liverpool have been linked with the Frenchman.
But Aldridge told the Sunday World: "Mbappé is a sensational footballer and it would be fascinating to see him in a Liverpool jersey, but elements of this story simply don't add up to me.
“This has all come about due to what many believe is Mohamed Salah's almost certain departure to Saudi Arabia next summer, with the £200 million fee Liverpool may get for him enough to consider a move for Mbappé.
“Yet this does not feel like the kind of deal Liverpool and (Jurgen) Klopp will do for a number of reasons.
“First of all, the money involved in what will be the biggest free transfer in football history will be astronomical, with agents demanding huge numbers to get a deal over the line.
“Then you look at the baggage Mbappé could bring with him to Liverpool.
“These superstar players are brands in their own right these days and they come with an ego and an entourage that can unsettle a dressing room.
“You hear about the influence Mbappé has at Paris Saint-Germain and there is no way Klopp would let him run the show if he was in his squad.
“I'd expect Mbappé to end up at Real Madrid and Liverpool would be better off using the money they get from a potential sale of Salah to sign three or four top quality players."
