Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is studying the Bundesliga market for a new centre-half.
The Athletic says Arteta is eager to find a new defensive signing in 2024 and he has two Bundesliga players on his radar.
Bayern Munich's former Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt is under consideration, along with Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck.
Both are under contract until the summer of 2027 and neither are realistic targets for Arsenal in January due to their price tag.
Germany international Schlotterbeck has a goal and an assist in 24 competitive games for Dortmund this season.
De Ligt has scored one goal in eleven competitive games for Bayern Munich this season. He has managed to score two goals in 43 international matches for Holland.
Bayern Munich is second in the Bundesliga, while Dortmund is in fifth place.
