Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto admits the players expected Leo Messi to return this summer.

Messi rejected Barca to sign with Inter Miami after leaving PSG this summer.

Roberto said: "Everyone was looking forward to it and personally I would have liked to play with Leo again. It was the story that everyone wanted him to return home, because it would have been the opportunity to give him the farewell he deserved. We tried, but it wasn't possible."

Roberto also commented on Barca links for PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

"I don't know if it's viable for him to come," he said. "It's clear that if he could come he would be welcome, because we always want the best players, but I don't know what is happening with players who are not at Barça."
