Barcelona great Leo Messi enjoyed a dream debut for Inter Miami last night.

Messi made his debut as a second-half substitute in the Leagues Cup tie against Cruz Azul and struck a last minute winner.

The Argentina captain later said: "It was a very good game for us, we wanted to start like this, giving a victory to our people.

"I had the last one, I tried as I always do. Luckily it went through and into the net, the goalkeeper didn't get there and it's a huge joy after so long and because of the way we've been going. We had to start winning to gain confidence, even if it is another championship.

"I am very happy to be here, it is the place we chose with my family. I thank the people again, and I hope they continue to join us throughout the year."

Messi dedicated the win to teammate Ian Fray.

"I want to dedicate the victory to Ian who was suffering in the locker room because of the injury. He is a very young guy who already suffered two serious injuries and I hope he recovers once again."
