Benitez enjoys winning friendly debut as Everton manager

Everton enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 friendly win against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez oversaw his first training session since being appointed manager on Tuesday and will take charge of his first official friendly when Everton tackle Colombians Millonarios in this month's Florida Cup.

Tom Cannon, the Under-23s striker, opened the scoring when he prodded home towards the end of the first half against a side who began pre-season training a fortnight ago.

And following wholesale half-time changes – in a game contested over two 40-minute periods – centre-half Lewis Gibson stole in to convert a Gylfi Sigurdsson free-kick at the back post.

Anthony Gordon, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Preston North End, ran clear for a clinical finish to complete the scoring.
