Steve Cook has explained leaving Nottingham Forest for QPR this summer.

The veteran admits he decided to make the move after conceding he wouldn't be seeing action for Forest.

"I knew I wouldn't play loads of football in the Premier League. At the start of the season I played a few on the trot. I was delighted to be at the club and gave my all when I played," he told the Garibaldi Red podcast..

"My role was always going to be in the dressing room to be a strong character and be a stepping stone between the team and the management.

"We had a good group of senior players that got on well with the manager and the staff. I was one that wanted to do my best for the club. I've got no ill feeling over not playing enough.

"My role when I first came in was can we unite the dressing room and get promoted in time? We did that. I look back at my time at Nottingham Forest with huge satisfaction.

"It was very disappointing to be left out (of the 25 man squad). I made a conscious effort to be that voice in the dressing room still. I trained as well as I could.

"I didn't give a chance for anyone to criticise. It was five or six months, it was difficult, but I was thinking of my next move and I didn't want to give anyone a chance to badmouth me. I wanted to support the lads too. If anything I became more invested and travelled round the country with the fans.

"I know all I did all I could for the club. I wouldn't change a thing because we were promoted, I played a small part in keeping the club in the Premier League and now look at the signings they're making and the steps they're taking."
