Ex-Juventus team doctor Causarano: I don't believe Pogba intended to dope

Former Juventus team doctor Andrea Causarano is sorry seeing Paul Pogba caught up in a doping controversy.

The Juve midfielder has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for testosterone.

Causarano told TuttoJuve: "I'm very sorry, because I was lucky enough to work with him. He's always been a very professional guy. It becomes difficult to talk about it in detail, but I can say with absolute certainty that I have never met any footballer who wanted to dope in my thirty years of experience in the world of football. There had never been any type of will from their part.

"Surprise tests are very frequent at the end of the games, but some positive tests were linked to errors or the contamination of some substances .I hope Paul can make his case.

"It could also have been a cream, or as I was saying there could also have been a contamination as had happened in the case of Palomino of Atalanta. I would also add that this is also an old type of doping (synthetic testosterone)."

On Pogba's potential ban, he added: "To be fair, before speaking and expressing our opinion on any disqualifications, we are waiting for the counter-analysis. I know the seriousness of the laboratories that will carry them out, as well as the rigor of the Juventus medical staff. I have no doubt about the fact that they will do everything to clarify the episode, demonstrating that there was never a desire on Paul's part to dope."
