Fans sacking? Marcelino leaves Olympique Marseille 'for non-sporting reasons'

Marcelino has left Olympique Marseille as coach.

The Spaniard departs "for non-sporting reasons", announced OM today.

The decision arrives after president Pablo Longoria, Marcelino's strongest ally inside the club, had an ugly confrontation with supporters' groups on Monday.

It was demanded that Longoria sack the former Valencia coach during the meeting.

"The club as a whole is extremely disappointed at having to face the departure of a coach and a coaching staff (...) for non-sporting reasons," stated OM in a media release.

The tension that the team is experiencing "does not allow Marcelino and his coaching staff to perform in good conditions the functions for which they were hired".
