IT'S OVER: Eden Hazard announces retirement

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Eden Hazard has announced his retirement.

Hazard had his Real Madrid contract terminated a year early at the end of last season and after several months has decided to confirm he's hanging up the boots.

He posted to social media:

"You have to listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 games played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

"I was able to realise my dream, I played and had fun on many fields andI traveled the world. During my career I was lucky enough to meet great coaches and teammates, I want to thank everyone for the great moments, I will miss you all.

"And I thank the clubs I played for and the Belgian national team. Thanks to my family, to my friends, to those who advised me and those who were close to me in good or bad times.

"And finally thanks to all of you fans who have followed me and encouraged me all these years. Now it's time to enjoy the affection and do new experiences.

"See you off the field, friends."
