Manchester City have made a serious play for River Plate whiz Claudio Echeverri.

The 17 year-old has declared he "will not renew" his River contract and could be sold as early as January.

Barcelona have been rated favourites to land Echeverri, with an offer of €25m being prepared.

But transfer expert Nicolo Schira is reporting City have now come forward with a five-year contract offer for the teen and his family to consider.

City will offer €20m to River next month to convince them to sell.
