Roma name De Rossi as new coach

AS Roma have named former captain Daniele de Rossi as new coach.

De Rossi replaces Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Roma this morning. It will mark De Rossi's second senior coaching post after he lasted three months with SPAL last season.

Roma announced today:

"AS Roma is pleased to announce that Daniele De Rossi has been appointed as the new Technical Manager of the First Team until 30 June 2024. After 18 years as a Giallorossi footballer, De Rossi will return to the role of coach and he will make his debut on our bench in the championship match against Verona on Saturday afternoon at the Olimpico.

“We are happy to be able to hand over the technical responsibility of AS Roma to Daniele De Rossi, as we believe that the leadership and ambition that have always characterized him can be decisive in chasing the objectives that the team has in front of it until end of the season," said owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

“We knew the indissoluble bond that unites Daniele to the Club, but the enthusiasm with which he immediately accepted this challenge for the coming months further convinced us of his ability to be a guide for the players and a proud representative of the values of this club. Welcome home, Daniele."
