Sevilla coach Diego Alonso: We lost to Real Sociedad but our heads are held high

Sevilla coach Diego Alonso was left frustrated after defeat to Real Sociedad.

Sevilla veterans Sergio Ramos and Jesus Navas were sent off as they lost 2-1.

Alonso said: "We couldn't win but with our heads held high. We have come, we have stood up, we almost came back from 2-0. In the first half, Real was just a little bit better. They came twice and scored two goals against us. A very good second half of the team.

"It seems to me that Sergio's red card is not the one and from what I spoke with Jesús, the card is not well managed. It's football, touched the ball, then a little leg, a football play, but hey, it's what we had and what the referee decided. Despite being with nine, we put on two strikers, to find it in some way."

On Navas's gesture, he said: "I don't know exactly, I think it's a management issue. Jesús is 38 years old, 20 years old as a professional. Anyone who knows Navas knows how professional he is, how he treats rivals, referees.

"After three minutes we were losing with a goal that was difficult to analyze, the second too. The first half, beyond some situations, was even. We were not capable of generating all the danger we needed and having the prominence we wanted. The team came to win and the result is unfair because the team played well, they did what they had to do.

"Head up. The message is for the players too. They played a great game."
