Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is offering no hints over any plans he has for Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos.
It's been suggested the former Real Madrid and Spain captain deserves a recall, particularly with La Roja now qualified for Euro2024.
But De la Fuente told AS: "I don't like to talk about private conversations and I am very respectful of that. I think it was Sergio who talked about that. But what is clear is that just seeing how events have developed shows that my bet is on other players.
"That's without taking away from Sergio Ramos, who is a great player. But a coach has to start with an idea based on something, and I have a series of players who give me guarantees and confidence.
"I try to be waterproof, really. When I came to office I read a lot of press and was aware of everything, but in the end that does not allow you to be independent. I think anyone who says that doesn't affect them is lying. I live happier being ignorant of those things. This way I make decisions with more independence."
