Villarreal coach Marcelino says Valencia deserved their win last night.

Valencia were impressive for the 3-1 win.

Marcelino said afterwards: "Valencia has surpassed us, especially in the first half hour where they have played with more intensity and judgment. In that section the game has been decided.

"And we knew it, we knew the intensity with which Valencia usually plays at the beginning of each half and we have not known how to counteract it. Congratulations to Valencia because it was a fair victory.

"I already said it. If you want I'll repeat it again. If they score 38 goals in 19 games, you have a very serious problem. In my last five games here we have conceded 14 goals. The opponent doesn't need much.

"By shooting four or five times at the goal, and they don't have to be clear, they score. We are vulnerable. If every game we win they score two goals, like against Celta, it is difficult.

"We will try to continue working hard to improve this absolutely decisive aspect."
